Mansfield is a city located in Wright County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wright County.

History

Mansfield was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after Mansfield, Ohio, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1859.
Mansfield was incorporated in 1871. The town was a major stop on the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, which ran through the town from 1881 to 1932.

Geography

Mansfield is located at 37°14'25" North, 92°17'45" West (37.240278, -92.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Mansfield's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a large dairy farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,541.2 people per square mile (593.3/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 672.2 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.11% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.47% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.

The per capita income for the city was $14,845.
