Hartville Summary

History

The town of Hartville, Missouri is located in Wright County, in the south-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Gasconade River, and is the county seat of Wright County. The town was founded in 1856, and was named after the Hart family, who were early settlers in the area.
The town was originally a small farming community, and the main industry was agriculture. In the late 19th century, the town began to grow, and several businesses were established. The first bank in Hartville was established in 1891, and the first newspaper, the Hartville Herald, was established in 1895.
In the early 20th century, the town began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The population increased from just over 500 in 1900 to over 1,000 by 1920. During this time, several new businesses were established, including a flour mill, a furniture factory, and a canning factory.
