History

Harrisonville was founded in 1837 by William Harrison, a settler from Kentucky. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1853. The town was originally a trading post for settlers in the area.
In the late 19th century, Harrisonville became a major stop on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The railroad brought in new businesses and industries, and the town grew rapidly.

Harrisonville is located at 38°44'25" North, 94°20'45" West (38.740278, -94.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), all land.

There were 3,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.9% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
