Fordland Summary

Fordland is a small city located in Webster County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the James River, approximately 10 miles south of Springfield. The city was founded in 1883 by William Ford, a local farmer, and was incorporated in 1887. As of the 2010 census, the population of Fordland was 1,845.

Geography

Fordland is located at 37°10'25"N 93°14'17"W (37.173611, -93.238056). It is situated on the banks of the James River, approximately 10 miles south of Springfield. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Climate

Fordland has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, wet winters. The average annual temperature is 57°F, with an average high of 79°F in July and an average low of 35°F in January. The average annual precipitation is 43.5 inches, with an average of 4.5 inches of snowfall per year.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
