History

Fair Play was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was originally called “Fairplay”, but the name was later changed to “Fair Play”. The town was a farming community and was home to several small businesses. In the late 1800s, the town was home to a flour mill, a sawmill, and a blacksmith shop.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it. The town’s population decreased and many of the businesses closed. In the late 1900s, the town began to experience a resurgence as people began to move back to the area. Today, Fair Play is a small, rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people.
