Diamond Summary

Diamond is a small city located in Newton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Diamond was founded in 1883 by the Diamond Coal and Mining Company. The company was owned by the prominent Joplin family, the McCaslins. The town was named after the diamond-shaped logo of the company. The town was incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Diamond was a thriving mining town. The town had a population of over 1,000 people and was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a post office, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.

Diamond is located at 37°2′25″N 94°25′17″W (37.040278, -94.421389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

The economy of Diamond is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a beef cattle farm, and a hog farm. The town also has several tourist attractions, including a museum, a historic church, and a golf course.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,822.5 people per square mile (704.3/km2).
