History
Buckner was founded in 1871 by William Buckner, a former Confederate soldier. The town was named after him. The first post office was established in 1872. The town was incorporated in 1887.

Buckner is located at 39°14'25" North, 94°20'45" West (39.240278, -94.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Buckner is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a variety of restaurants. The city also has a small industrial park.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,743 people, 1,072 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,269.2 people per square mile (876.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races.
