Agency is a small town located in the state of Missouri, in the United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of Holt. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located in a rural area.

History

Agency was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Oregon. The town was named after the nearby Agency Creek, which was named by the settlers after the Native American Agency House, which was located nearby. The Agency House was a trading post and a meeting place for the local Native American tribes.
The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and develop, and a post office was established in 1883. The town also had a school, a church, and a general store.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline, and by the 1950s, the population had dropped to just over 500 people. However, in the late 1970s, the town began to experience a resurgence, and the population began to grow again.
