Augusta Summary

Augusta, Kentucky is a small city located in Bracken County, Kentucky. It is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, and is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is the county seat of Bracken County.

Geography

Augusta is located in the northern part of Bracken County, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The city is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, and is bordered by the towns of Brooksville and Germantown to the north, and the city of Maysville to the south. Augusta is approximately 40 miles east of Cincinnati, Ohio, and is accessible by Interstate 275.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the surrounding area. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters.

History

Augusta was founded in 1797 by a group of settlers from Augusta, Georgia. The city was named after the original Augusta, and was incorporated in 1817. The city was an important port on the Ohio River, and was a major stop on the Underground Railroad.
