Empire is a small city located in Bulloch County, Georgia, United States. The city is situated in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 30 miles northwest of Savannah. As of the 2010 census, the population of Empire was 1,845.
Geography
Empire is located at 32°25'25" North, 81°45'45" West (32.423, -81.7625). The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 837.5 people per square mile. There were 745 housing units at an average density of 339.1 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 68.2% White, 28.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% were married couples living together, 20.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
