Geography

Valley Falls is located at 42°53'25" North, 73°27'45" West (42.890278, -73.4625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Valley Falls was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as "Hoosick Falls" and was later renamed "Valley Falls" in 1820. The village was incorporated in 1848.
Valley Falls was an important industrial center in the 19th century. The village was home to several mills, including a paper mill, a cotton mill, and a woolen mill. The mills provided employment for many of the village's residents.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
