Perry Summary

Perry is a town located in Wyoming County, New York, United States. The population was 4,743 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero of the War of 1812.

Geography

Perry is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming County, bordered by Genesee County to the north, Livingston County to the east, and Cattaraugus County to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 35.9sqmi is land and 0.3sqmi, or 0.86%, is water.
The town is in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The east town line is the border of Livingston County, and the north town line is the border of Genesee County.
New York State Route 39, an east-west highway, intersects New York State Route 19, a north-south highway, in the village of Perry.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,845 people, 1,845 households, and 1,310 families residing in the town. The population density was 135.2 people per square mile (52.2/km^2). There were 2,039 housing units at an average density of 56.7 per square mile (21.9/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.90% White, 0.45% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.
