Mannsville Summary

Mannsville is a small hamlet located in the town of Ellisburg in Jefferson County, New York. It is situated on the banks of the Salmon River, approximately 20 miles north of Watertown. The hamlet was founded in 1817 by John Mann, who purchased the land from the local Native American tribe, the Oneida Nation. The hamlet was originally known as Mannsville Corners, but the name was shortened to Mannsville in 1845.

In 1845, the first sawmill was built in the hamlet, and by the late 19th century, Mannsville had become a major producer of lumber. The hamlet also had a number of other industries, including a grist mill, a tannery, a blacksmith shop, and a brickyard.
