Holland Summary

Holland is a town located in the western part of Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 4,912 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the Dutch city of Holland.

History

The area that is now Holland was first settled in 1810 by a group of Dutch immigrants. The town was officially established in 1820 and was named after the Dutch city of Holland. The town was originally part of the Holland Purchase, a large tract of land purchased by the Holland Land Company in 1792.
The town was an agricultural community for much of its history, with dairy farming being the primary industry. In the late 19th century, the town began to develop into a resort area, with many summer homes being built along the shore of Lake Erie.

Geography

Holland is located in the western part of Erie County, New York. It is bordered by the towns of Evans to the north, Brant to the east, and North Collins to the south. The town is located on the shore of Lake Erie, and is home to several small lakes, including Lake Erie, Lakeview, and Silver Lake.
The town has a total area of 33.2 square miles, of which 32.7 square miles is land and 0.5 square miles is water.
