Hobart Summary

Hobart is a town located in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. The town is in the southwest corner of the county and is south of Oneonta.

Geography

Hobart is located in the southwest corner of Delaware County, bordered to the west by Otsego County, to the south by Schoharie County, and to the east by the towns of Kortright and Meredith. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.7sqmi, of which 39.6sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi, or 0.25%, is water.

The west town line is the border of Otsego County The Susquehanna River forms the south town line

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 46.6 people per square mile (18.0/km^2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 21.3 per square mile (8.2/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.90% White, 0.11% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.20% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.09.
