Fayetteville Summary

Fayetteville is a village located in Onondaga County, New York, United States. It is part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,373 at the 2010 census.

History

Fayetteville was first settled in 1794 by a group of settlers from New England. The village was named after the Marquis de Lafayette, a French military hero who fought in the American Revolutionary War. The village was incorporated in 1835.

Geography

Fayetteville is located at 43°3'25" North, 76°6'25" West (43.056944, -76.106944). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Fayetteville is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The village is also home to several large employers, including the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, the Fayetteville Free Library, and the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,373 people, 1,717 households, and 1,093 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,976.8 people per square mile (764.2/km2). There were 1,817 housing units at an average density of 817.7 per square mile (315.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 1,717 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,972, and the median income for a family was $63,929. Males had a median income of $45,917 versus $31,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,945. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
