Fabius Summary

Fabius is a town located in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus.

Geography

Fabius is located in the northwest corner of Onondaga County, bordered by Madison County to the north, Cortland County to the west, and the towns of Tully and LaFayette to the south and east, respectively. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 36.1sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi, or 0.22%, is water.
The north town line is the border of Madison County, and the west town line is the border of Cortland County.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,919 people, 717 households, and 545 families residing in the town. The population density was 53.2 people per square mile (20.6/km^2). There were 776 housing units at an average density of 21.5 per square mile (8.3/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.44% White, 0.21% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.68% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.
