Clayville Summary

Clayville is a small village located in Oneida County, New York, United States. The village is located within the Town of Paris, and is situated on the banks of the Sauquoit Creek. The population of Clayville was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Clayville was first settled in 1793 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was named after the local clay deposits, which were used to make bricks and pottery. The first post office in Clayville was established in 1817.

Economy

Clayville is a small village with a limited economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The village also has a few small manufacturing companies.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,541.4 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 668.6 per square mile (258.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945.
