Bridgewater Summary

Bridgewater is a town located in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. The town is in the northwest corner of the county and is north of Utica.

History

The area that is now Bridgewater was first settled around 1790. The town was formed from the Town of Paris in 1807. The town was named after Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Geography

Bridgewater is located in the northwest corner of Oneida County, bordered by Herkimer County to the north, Madison County to the west, and Lewis County to the south. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.2 square miles, of which 36.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles (0.28%) is water.
The north town line is the border of Herkimer County, and the west town line is the border of Madison County.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 51.1 people per square mile (19.7/km^2).
