Wheeling Summary

Wheeling, Missouri is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state, just south of the Missouri River. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area and is located in St. Charles County. The population of Wheeling was 1,845 in the 2010 census.

History

Wheeling was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after the nearby Wheeling Creek, which was named after the Wheeling Indian tribe. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a trading post for the surrounding area. In 1845, the first post office was established in Wheeling.
In the late 1800s, Wheeling began to grow and develop. The town was incorporated in 1891 and the first mayor was elected in 1892. The town was connected to the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad in 1895, which helped to spur economic growth.
In the early 1900s, Wheeling was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a flour mill, a brickyard, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The town also had a school, a bank, and a newspaper.
