Scott City is a city located in Scott County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,565 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Scott County.

History

Scott City was founded in 1872 by William Scott, a former Confederate soldier. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1876. The town was originally located on the banks of the Mississippi River, but was moved to its current location in 1882 due to flooding.

Geography

Scott City is located at 37°14'25" North, 89°37'17" West (37.240278, -89.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Scott City is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large agricultural companies, including Monsanto, Cargill, and Tyson Foods. The city also has a number of manufacturing companies, including Scott Manufacturing, which produces automotive parts, and Scott Plastics, which produces plastic products.

The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
