Princeton, Missouri is a small town located in Mercer County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the Chariton River, and is approximately 30 miles south of the state capital, Jefferson City. The town was founded in 1837 and was named after Princeton, New Jersey. The population of Princeton was 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Princeton is located at 39°25'45"N, 93°14'45"W (39.4292, -93.2458). It is situated on the banks of the Chariton River, and is approximately 30 miles south of the state capital, Jefferson City. The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Climate

Princeton has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. The average annual temperature is 54°F, with an average high of 79°F in July and an average low of 28°F in January. The average annual precipitation is 40 inches, with the wettest month being May, with an average of 4.7 inches of rain.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in Princeton. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races.
