History

Pilot Grove was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after a grove of trees that served as a landmark for travelers. The first post office was established in 1838.
In the late 19th century, Pilot Grove was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a sawmill.

Geography

Pilot Grove is located at 38°45'25" North, 92°37'45" West (38.756944, -92.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
