Otterville Summary

Otterville, Missouri is a small town located in Cooper County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the Missouri River, approximately 30 miles east of the state capital of Jefferson City. The town was founded in 1837 and has a population of approximately 500 people.

History

Otterville was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after the Otter Creek, which runs through the area. The creek was named after the otters that were seen in the area. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a trading post for the surrounding area.
In 1845, the first post office was established in Otterville. The town was incorporated in 1851 and the first school was built in 1854. The town grew slowly over the years, but it was not until the late 19th century that it began to experience significant growth.
