Montrose Summary

Montrose, Missouri is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state, in the Ozark Mountains. It is situated in the foothills of the Ozarks, and is surrounded by rolling hills and lush forests. The town is located in Wright County, and is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Montrose was estimated to be 1,072 in 2019.

History

Montrose was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Hartville. The town was named after the nearby Montrose Creek, which was named after the town of Montrose in Scotland. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. The town also had a sawmill and a gristmill.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first school was built in 1906, and the first bank opened in 1908. The town also had a post office, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.
