Leeton Summary

Leeton, Missouri is a small town located in Johnson County, Missouri. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, approximately 30 miles south of Kansas City. The town was founded in 1871 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Leeton was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after the first settler, William Leeton. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the timber industry. The town was incorporated in 1887 and the first post office was established in 1888.
In the early 1900s, Leeton was a thriving community with a population of over 1,000 people. The town had several stores, a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, and a sawmill. The town also had a school, a church, and a newspaper.
In the 1920s, the timber industry began to decline and the population of Leeton began to decline as well. The Great Depression further reduced the population and the town was nearly abandoned by the 1940s.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence. The timber industry was revived and the population began to grow again. The town also began to attract new businesses, including a feed mill, a grain elevator, and a lumber yard.
