Knox City Summary
Knox City, Missouri is a small town located in the northeast corner of the state, in Knox County. It is situated on the banks of the South Fabius River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town was founded in 1845, and has a population of just over 500 people.
History
Knox City was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after General Henry Knox, who served as the first Secretary of War under President George Washington. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and prosper, and a number of businesses were established. These included a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a post office.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline, as many of the businesses closed and the population began to dwindle. However, in the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence, as new businesses opened and the population began to grow again. Today, Knox City is a small, rural town with a population of just over 500 people.
