Eldon Summary

Eldon, Missouri is a small city located in Miller County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the Osage River, approximately 30 miles south of the state capital of Jefferson City. The city has a population of approximately 3,000 people and is part of the Jefferson City Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Eldon was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The city was named after the nearby Osage River, which was named after the Osage Indians who once lived in the area. The city was incorporated in 1872 and quickly became a thriving agricultural and industrial center. The city was home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, and a brickyard.
In the late 19th century, Eldon was a popular destination for tourists, who came to enjoy the city's natural beauty and recreational activities. The city was also home to several resorts, including the Eldon Hotel, which was built in 1891 and is still in operation today.
