History
Concordia was founded in 1836 by a group of German immigrants who had come to the area from Pennsylvania. The town was named after the Latin word for “harmony”, and the settlers hoped to create a peaceful and harmonious community. The town was officially incorporated in 1845.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,179.2 people per square mile (841.3/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 902.3 per square mile (348.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
