Centertown Summary

Centertown is a small town located in Cole County, Missouri, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Missouri River, approximately 10 miles south of Jefferson City, the state capital. The town was founded in 1837 and has a population of approximately 500 people.

History

Centertown was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was originally known as “Centerville”, but the name was changed to “Centertown” in 1845. The town was an important stop on the Missouri River, as it was the closest town to the river for many miles. It was also a popular stop for steamboats, which would stop to take on supplies and passengers.
