Bell City Summary

City of Bell City Missouri

Bell City is a small city located in Stoddard County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the St. Francis River, approximately 10 miles south of the county seat of Bloomfield. The city has a population of approximately 1,000 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

The area that is now Bell City was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The settlement was originally known as “Bell’s Landing”, named after the first settler, William Bell. The settlement grew slowly over the years, and in 1872, the town was officially incorporated as Bell City.
In the late 1800s, Bell City was a thriving agricultural community, with cotton, corn, and soybeans being the main crops. The town also had a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it and the population began to move away. By the mid-1900s, the town had become a virtual ghost town, with only a few residents remaining.
In the late 1970s, the town began to experience a resurgence as people began to move back to the area. The town was revitalized and new businesses began to open. Today, Bell City is a small but vibrant community with a variety of businesses and services.

Geography

Bell City is located in the southeastern corner of Stoddard County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the St. Francis River, approximately 10 miles south of the county seat of Bloomfield. The city has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land.
