Kevil Summary

Kevil is a small city located in Ballard County, Kentucky, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 10 miles south of Paducah. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Kevil is located at 37°2′17″N 88°45′17″W (37.038118, -88.754720). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

History

Kevil was founded in 1883 by the Kevil family, who had moved to the area from Virginia. The town was named after the family, and the post office was established in 1884. The town was incorporated in 1887.
Kevil was a major shipping point for the Ohio River during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several factories, including a cotton mill, a flour mill, and a sawmill. The town also had a railroad depot, which was used to transport goods to and from the Ohio River.

Economy

Kevil’s economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant. The town also has a few small manufacturing plants, including a plastics factory and a furniture factory.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,541.7 people per square mile (595.2/km2).
