History

Hardinsburg was founded in 1810 by William Hardin, who was a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named after him, and was originally known as Hardin's Station. The town was incorporated in 1837, and the first post office was established in 1838.
The town was an important stop on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and was a major shipping point for tobacco, hemp, and other agricultural products. The town was also the site of a major Civil War battle in 1862, when Confederate forces under General John Hunt Morgan attacked the town. The town was also the site of a major flood in 1937, when the Ohio River overflowed its banks and flooded the town.
