Woolstock Summary
Woolstock is a small city located in Wright County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Dodge, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Woolstock was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Woolstock, England. The town was named after the English town, and the settlers brought with them the same customs and traditions. The first post office was established in 1882.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first bank was established in 1906, and the first school was built in 1908. The town also had a newspaper, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the population moved away to larger cities. The bank closed in 1929, and the newspaper ceased publication in 1932. The hotel closed in the 1940s, and the general store closed in the 1950s.

The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
