Tabor Summary

Tabor, Iowa is a small town located in the southwestern corner of the state, in Fremont County. It is situated on the banks of the Nishnabotna River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town was founded in 1856, and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Tabor was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Tabor, Ohio, the hometown of the settlers. The town was originally a farming community, and the first settlers built a grist mill and a sawmill. The town grew slowly, and by the late 19th century, it had become a thriving agricultural center.
In the early 20th century, Tabor began to diversify its economy. The town became a center for the production of furniture, and several factories were built in the area. The town also became a center for the production of brick and tile.
In the 1950s, Tabor began to experience a decline in its economy. The factories closed, and the population began to decline. In the late 20th century, the town began to experience a resurgence. The town was revitalized by the construction of a new school, a new library, and a new community center.
