History

Sioux Center was founded in 1872 by a group of Dutch settlers who had recently arrived in the area. The city was named after the Sioux Indians who had previously inhabited the area. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources.
The city was incorporated in 1882 and quickly grew to become a major agricultural center in the region. The city was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, and a brickyard.

There were 2,541 households, out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 13.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
