Sibley Summary
Sibley is a city located in Osceola County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Osceola County.
History
Sibley was founded in 1871 by William Sibley, a railroad contractor. The city was named after him. The first post office was established in 1872. The city was incorporated in 1881.

Economy
The economy of Sibley is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large farms, as well as a number of smaller family farms. The city also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,288.6 people per square mile (496.7/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 535.5 per square mile (206.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,964 versus $21,964 for females.
