Sac City Summary
Sac City is a city located in Sac County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sac County.
History
Sac City was founded in 1856 by settlers from the Sac and Fox Indian tribes. The city was named after the Sac and Fox tribes, who had a long history in the area. The first settlers were mostly of German and Irish descent.
The city was incorporated in 1858 and the first mayor was elected in 1859. The first school was built in 1860 and the first church was built in 1861.

There were 1,093 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,845. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
