History

Sac City was founded in 1856 by settlers from the Sac and Fox Indian tribes. The city was named after the Sac and Fox tribes, who had a long history in the area. The first settlers were mostly of German and Irish descent.
The city was incorporated in 1858 and the first mayor was elected in 1859. The first school was built in 1860 and the first church was built in 1861.
