Rembrandt Summary

Rembrandt, Iowa is a small town located in Clay County in the northwest corner of the state. The town was founded in 1881 and has a population of just over 500 people. The town is located on the banks of the Little Sioux River and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

History

Rembrandt was founded in 1881 by a group of Dutch immigrants who had recently arrived in the United States. The town was named after the famous Dutch painter, Rembrandt van Rijn. The town was originally a farming community and the main crops were corn, oats, and hay. The town also had a small sawmill and a blacksmith shop.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and the population increased to over 500 people. The town had a post office, a bank, a hotel, a general store, and several churches. The town also had a school, which was built in 1910.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the population began to move away to larger cities. The Great Depression also had a negative effect on the town and many businesses closed. The population continued to decline until the 1950s when the town began to experience a resurgence.

Rembrandt is located in Clay County in the northwest corner of Iowa. The town is situated on the banks of the Little Sioux River and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town is located about 25 miles from the city of Spencer and about 50 miles from the city of Sioux City.
The town has a total area of 0.6 square miles and is located at an elevation of 1,072 feet. The climate in Rembrandt is humid continental with hot summers and cold winters.
