Redfield Summary

Redfield, Iowa is a small town located in Dallas County, Iowa. It is situated in the Des Moines metropolitan area and is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Redfield was 1,072 at the 2010 census.

History

Redfield was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after the red clay soil found in the area. The first post office was established in 1855. The town was incorporated in 1881.

Geography

Redfield is located at 41°30'25" North, 94°2'25" West (41.506944, -94.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Redfield is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a few restaurants and a grocery store.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,072 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,521.4 people per square mile (586.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
