History
Redfield was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after the red clay soil found in the area. The first post office was established in 1855. The town was incorporated in 1881.

Redfield is located at 41°30'25" North, 94°2'25" West (41.506944, -94.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

The economy of Redfield is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a few restaurants and a grocery store.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,072 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,521.4 people per square mile (586.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
