History
Radcliffe was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the Radcliffe family, who were early settlers in the area. The first post office was established in 1882.
Radcliffe was incorporated as a city in 1887. The city was a major shipping point for livestock and grain. The Radcliffe State Bank was established in 1891 and the Radcliffe Telephone Company was established in 1895.

Radcliffe is located at 42°14'17" North, 93°14'17" West (42.238, -93.238). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

Radcliffe is a small rural community with a population of 1,093. The economy is largely based on agriculture and related industries. The city is home to several businesses, including a feed mill, a grain elevator, a lumber yard, a hardware store, a grocery store, a restaurant, and a bank.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,179.3 people per square mile (456.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 507.3 per square mile (196.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.90% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
