Neola Summary

Neola, Iowa is a small city located in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. It is situated along the West Nishnabotna River, approximately 25 miles southwest of Council Bluffs. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Neola was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the daughter of a railroad official. The first settlers were mostly of German and Irish descent. The city was incorporated in 1883.
In the early 1900s, Neola was a thriving agricultural community. The city was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a flour mill, and a lumber yard. The city also had a hotel, a bank, and a newspaper.

Geography

Neola is located at 41°25'N 95°37'W. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. The climate is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters.
