Moorland is a city located in Webster County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Dodge, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Moorland was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from England. The town was named after the moorlands of England. The first post office was established in 1882.

The town was incorporated in 1887 The first mayor was William H Moore

Economy

Moorland is a small rural community with a population of 1,093. The economy is largely based on agriculture, with corn and soybeans being the main crops. There are also several small businesses in the town, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 305 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,179.3 people per square mile (456.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 507.3 per square mile (196.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.90% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females.
