Manning Summary
Manning is a city located in Carroll County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carroll County.
History
Manning was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after the Manning family, who were among the first settlers. The first post office was established in 1857.
In 1871, the Chicago and North Western Railway built a line through Manning, connecting it to the rest of the state. This allowed the town to become a major shipping center for the surrounding area.
In 1875 the first school was built in Manning The town was incorporated in 1876

Manning is a small rural community with a strong agricultural base. The town is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and a variety of restaurants.
The town is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a machine shop.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 672.5 per square mile (259.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,845. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
