History
Lytton was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The town was named after Lytton, England, the birthplace of the railroad's president. The first post office was established in 1882.

The economy of Lytton is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. There are also several small businesses in the area, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 221 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density was 891.7 people per square mile (344.7/km2). The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.06.
