Lone Rock is a small town located in Poweshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020. The town is situated on the banks of the Iowa River and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

History

Lone Rock was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after a large boulder that was located in the middle of the Iowa River. The boulder was used as a landmark for travelers and was the only visible landmark in the area.
The town was originally a farming community and the main crops grown were corn, oats, and hay. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and the population increased. The town was incorporated in 1891 and the first mayor was elected in 1892.
