History
The city of Everly was founded in 1887 by the Everly Brothers, two brothers from Ohio who had moved to the area in search of a better life. The brothers named the town after themselves and began to build a small community. The town grew slowly but steadily, and by the turn of the century, it had become a thriving community with a population of over 500.
The town was incorporated in 1901 and continued to grow throughout the early 20th century. In the 1950s, the town began to decline as many of its residents moved away in search of better job opportunities. By the 1970s, the population had dropped to just over 400.
In recent years, the town has seen a resurgence in population and economic activity. The population has grown to over 500 and the town has become a popular destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts.
Economy
The economy of Everly is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a number of small businesses. The town is also home to a number of tourist attractions, including the Everly Brothers Museum and the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 221 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density was 876.5 people per square mile (339.2/km2). There were 241 housing units at an average density of 388.7 per square mile (150.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 221 households, out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,845. About 8.2% of families and 10.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.3% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.
