History

The city of Ellsworth was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after the Ellsworth family, who were among the first settlers. The city was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Ellsworth was a major center for the production of agricultural products, such as corn, oats, and hay. The city was also home to several manufacturing companies, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
