History
The city of Bondurant was founded in 1881 by William Bondurant, a Civil War veteran. The city was named after him. The city was incorporated in 1891.

The economy of Bondurant is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large agricultural companies, including Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., a leading seed and biotechnology company. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including Bondurant Manufacturing, Inc., a manufacturer of agricultural equipment.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 3,860 people, 1,521 households, and 1,039 families residing in the city. The population density was 919.0 people per square mile (354.3/km2). There were 1,619 housing units at an average density of 385.7 per square mile (149.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
