Bedford Summary

Bedford, Iowa is a small city located in Taylor County in the south-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the South Fork of the Grand River, and is the county seat of Taylor County. The city has a population of approximately 2,000 people, and is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Bedford was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the town of Bedford in Ohio, and was originally known as “Bedford Station”. The town was incorporated in 1858, and the first post office was established in 1859.
